After the quiet unveiling of the new Bold 9650 and Pearl 3G, RIM have now prepared an energetic video ad for their new BlackBerry OS version.
A video demonstrated flipping through album art, pinch-to-zoom on images, typing, and making calls -- all with a touchscreen.
- As expected, it's an evolution of the existing BlackBerry OS
- RIM has implemented kinetic scrolling with rubber banding throughout the OS (more fluid experience)
- RIM has implemented multitouch throughout the OS - web browser, photos (including pinch to zoom!)
- Re-vamped inbox - w/ large thumbnails to identify the type of message (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and features built-in RSS.
- Homescreen changeup: No widget support, but RIM has implemented something called Pages.
- On touchscreen device, new modal popup with gestures - tap and hold, pops up an icon set (menu) with context menu items
- Updated media player, photos app and of course the WebKit browser!!
The new BlackBerry OS6 will be out sometime in Q3 this year and some older devices will be capable of upgrade. Still there is no info on the supported devices or the features package.
