Nokia N8 Officially Announced

Nokia has finally made an official announcement, acknowledging the existence of its N8 smartphone, the first Symbian3 handset.

Running on Nokia’s newest operating system, the N8 supports native multitasking and multiple, customizable homescreens, which are navigated between using flick scrolling and pinch zoom.

Specs include a 3.5 inch capacitive touchscreen, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD expansion slot, HDMI out, a 12-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss 28mm wide-angle optics and a Xenon flash, onboard editing software with face detection, 720p HD video recording and access to streaming web television services.

It’s a packed feature set… but unfortunately, word from a Russian site that got their hands on an early pre-release version have said the N8’s software simply isn’t up to snuff compared to the likes of Android and iPhone OS. On their part, though, Nokia says it was an early model with prototype software, and not the finished product.

Either way, we should know in Q3 2010, when the five different shades of the Nokia N8 (black, silver, neon green, red/orange and blue) will be available for a little under $500.
