To clearly differentiate the products within the international market for tablet computers, Neofonie have changed the product name of the tablet computer from WePad to WeTab.
Pressure from Apple?
Steve Jobs has claimed that Apple owns the “Pad” trademark. In fact, they don’t. But they’d still have a successful lawsuit on their hands : the WePad’s name is confusing to customers, since both brand names distill down to a “personal pronoun + the word ‘Pad’” formula.
Brand confusion was clearly Neofonie’s intention in christening their tablet the “WePad” but it looks like they’ve thought better of it.
According to the company’s Facebook fan page, Neofonie have renamed the WePad to WeTab, although all other features remain the same.
Pricing
While Neofonie was at it, they’ve also announced pricing. The 16GB WiFi-only model will cost at €449 ($573) while the 32GB version (which has WiFi, 3G, GPS and 1080p out via HDMI) will cost €569 ($726), with deliveries to start in June.
